Hey all,
So in my travels this weekend I came across a Microsoft employee and talked him up about Xbox II... here are the facts I found out.
1) Hard Drive... Yes! There was some speculation that MS was going to take the HD out to make it more difficult to Mod.
2) Flash based HD... Yes!!! It was told to me that the HD was going to be flash based... small size fast access... BAM!
3) No Stupid Dongle DVD playback... Yes!!! The reason that the first Xbox didn't have built in DVD playback is a simple one, Sony owns the Intellectual Property rights for DVD playback. Nuf said...
4) Xbox II at E3... Hell Yes!!! There will be an Xbox II maybe more at E3 this year...
5) Xbox II release date announced at E3... another Hell Yes!!! MS will be announcing a release date for Xbox II...
Now this is not like the "rumors" about IBM before these are hard cold facts from the horses mouth...

That's awesome. Any speculations about modding. How easy will it be and what kind of things can you do once you add a chip? And what about the rumors of a TV tuner and a DVD burner? When you find the release date let us know. Keep your fans updated man.

That sounds pretty cool. It will be interesting to see what sony has to put up against the Xbox II. It's gonna take alot to sway the Xbox Live community though.

if you want more good news here it is. Taken from gearlive at http://www.gearlive.com/index.php/news/article/triple_xbox_2_from_microsoft/
"I would take this one with a grain of salt until we get more solid evidence, but The Inquirer is reporting that Microsoft plans to release three versions of the upcoming XBOX sequel. There has been talk lately that the big M was thinking about removing the hard drive to bring down the cost of the next system, however it seems that they may be planning to actually release three versions of the XBOX 2. The first would be the standard game console, sans the hard drive. There would also be an XBOX 2 HD, which would include the hard drive along with some PVR functionality. Apparently, these two would launch in Fall 2005. Then in 2006 (probably around the time of the PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Revolution launch) Microsoft would release yet another version of the XBOX. This one is said to be a full blown PC with XBOX 2 capabilities out of the box. It would have a monitor, CD burner, and all the other PC fanfare - I am guessing this will be very close to being just a Media Center PC that plays XBOX games, and I expect it to sell similarly as well as the MCPC product line does - not very well."

I think the flash hd is a bad idea...it's smaller so that's nice, but those types of devices do have a limit to how many times they can be used before they expire. I don't want to be stuck with a dead xbox when that happens...

Wow...I want one now...and about the live call things kevin rose was talking about it to...now they want calls that are only about either like video games or special guests...how cool....not

I'm actually scared that the Xbox 2 will be coming out. If Nintendo gets crushed, then why should I live. Nintendo was "IS" my life.

I hate the xbox because Bill gates dont need more of my moey, it has sucky games and its bigger than a VCR. Also the PS# will be at E3 too. go sony and PS3

Good info, maybe it can contend with Sony and the PS this time around.
Thanks alex.
